Amalia Eriksson, a woman dogged by misfortune in her personal life, got her license to bake these little sweet things called "Polkagris" (peppermint rock) in 1859. Soon she was the most influential person in Gränna, and therefor a lot of places in the town are named after her. Her "Polkagris" is not only one of the major tourist attractions for the town, they are one of the most wellknown souvernirs of Sweden.
